Part 4: AIX Backup and Restore

When a customer selects the Application Hosting service using a AIX Platform, procurement, installation, provisioning, and maintenance of EDM backup software is included in the standard service.

AIX Platform - Data Backup

The AIX platform data backup provided by the DTS includes:
* Full data backups from disk to tape occur Tuesday through Saturday
* The backup process starts at 12:05am and runs to completion. The goal is to have all backups completed by 6:00am
* Any applications that are running are shutdown or put into a state where the file systems are stable prior to the backup starting. They are returned to normal operations after the backup process is complete. The owner of the application is responsible for providing shutdown and startup scripts to be incorporated into the backup process.

AIX Platform - Database Backup

The AIX platform database backup provided by the DTS includes:
* Cold database backups are run once a week. This requires that databases be shutdown and that no processing is taking place during the backup process
* Hot database backups are run on the remaining days of the week. During these backups, the database is place into a mode where the database is available for processing, but writes are not committed

AIX Platform - Operating System Backup

The AIX platform operating system backup provided by the DTS occurs weekly.

AIX Platform - Off-Site Storage

The AIX platform off-site storage provided by the DTS includes:
* Tapes created by the backup process are sent to off-site storage each Friday
* Tapes are retained off-site for two weeks

AIX Platform - Restore

Requests for restoration of files or file systems are processed as received.
* File restoration begins within two hours of the receipt of the request during normal business hours when the necessary backup media is onsite.
* When the necessary backup media is off-site, the restore will occur once the media is retrieved. * The length of time to complete a restore depends on the volume of data being recovered.
