for applications or systems that can afford to be down for a week or
more. |

available on the DTS Gold Camp SY2 and Triplex (SY4, SY5 and SY6)
mainframe systems. The new release is available in conjunction with
the upgrade of the z/OS mainframe operating system to z/OS 1.7. |
| Containment (Service, Service Component,
Hardware, Software, Technology) |
Containment services are DTS services that are in production use
within the DTS; however, the DTS
prefers to discontinue them because there is successor technology or
because the technology or service is no longer economically or
technically viable. The DTS encourages its customers to evolve away
from Containment services. The DTS will not introduce additional
occurrences of Containment technology into the production
environment.

Account codes are developed by the
customer departments as a method to identify and track internal
utilization of the services provided by the DTS. The account codes could
be configured to define internal users, projects, locations, types of
services or any other qualifier determined necessary by the individual
departments. Account codes must begin with the DTS assigned customer
billing prefix. The account codes contain ten total characters and
must begin with the assigned user code. The remaining eight characters
(seven characters for County Departments and Superior Courts) may be
any combination of numbers for letters as determined by the individual
departments. |

Data Backup is a service component that
the DTS currently offers as part of the standard Hosting Services
for applications and customer owned equipment. The DTS performs
backups of hosting environments to ensure the integrity of
customer data, as well as the ability to recover data as
needed. The DTS monitors system backup logs to
ensure that all backups are completed successfully. If a backup
fails, the DTS identifies and corrects the problem to ensure the
systems are properly backed up. |

| Permanent Virtual Circuit |
A permanent virtual circuit (PVC) is a
software-defined logical connection in a network such as a frame
relay network. A feature of frame relay that makes it a highly
flexible network technology is that users (companies or clients of
network providers) can define logical connections and required
bandwidth between end points and let the frame relay network
technology worry about how the physical network is used to achieve
the defined connections and manage the traffic. In frame relay, the
end points and a stated bandwidth called a Committed Information
Rate (CIR) constitute a PVC, which is defined to the frame relay
network devices. The bandwidth may not exceed the possible physical
bandwidth. Typically, multiple PVCs share the same physical paths at
the same time. To manage the variation in bandwidth requirements
expressed in the CIRs, the frame relay devices use a technique
called statistical multiplexing. |

| Resource Access Control Facility (RACF) |
RACF is an IBM software product. It is
a security system that provides access control and auditing
functionality for the z/OS and z/VM operating systems. In addition
to being one of the most mature and scalable security monitors in
computing, it has some interesting features that are not often found
in Microsoft Windows or Unix environments. It can, for example, set
permissions for file patterns — that is, set the permissions even
for files that do not yet exist. In
other words, RACF stores security policies rather than just
permission records. |
| Retirement (Service, Service Component,
Hardware, Software, Technology) |
A Retirement
service is a DTS service that is in production use within the DTS; however,
the DTS is at risk by continuing to provide it, typically because
vendor support is no longer available. The State could justify
projects aimed solely at eliminating the use of Retirement
technology. The DTS may assist its customers in evolving away from
Retirement services and the DTS will not introduce additional
occurrences of Retirement technology into the production
environment.

S
| Service Category |
DTS services are
grouped into categories based on similarities among the services.
This enables a particular service or type of service to be located
more easily within the DTS Service Catalog. The DTS Service
Categories are:
- Hosting Services
- Network Services
- Recovery Services
- Training Services
|
| Service Classification |
DTS services are
grouped into four classifications based on the DTS
lifecycle of the technology (hardware, firmware or software). The
Service Classifications are Emerging, Mainstream, Containment, and
Retirement. |
| Service Hours |
The DTS describes Service Hours to explain when a
service is available to customers and to indicate when certain support and
performance levels are available for it.
I. Standard Service
For a standard service, Service Hours are made up of three elements:
(1) Primary Hours:
(a) The maximum support available for a service is offered during Primary Hours.
(b) Operational performance of a service is optimal during Primary Hours.
(c) The highest service level objective for a service applies to the Primary Hours.
(2) Extended Hours:
(a) Support for a service during Extended Hours is likely to be less than what is provided
during Primary Hours. For example, response and resolution time for incidents may be
longer during Extended Hours because technical resources may be on-call vs. on-site.
(b) Performance for a service may be less during Extended Hours than what is provided during
Primary Hours. For example, response time may be slower during Extended Hours because
backup jobs may be running.
(c) A service level objective assigned to Extended Hours is typically lower than a similar
objective that is assigned to Primary Hours.
(3) Maintenance Hours
(a) Maintenance Hours are periods when the DTS installs upgrades and patches, performs
repairs, and conducts proactive testing. These activities may affect the performance
or availability of a service. Customers should expect that a service may be unavailable
during Maintenance Hours. If a service is available during this period, its performance
may be less than what is available during Primary Hours.
II. Non-Standard Service
If a customer has negotiated Primary Hours in excess of what is defined for a standard
service, the negotiated agreement describes a non-standard service. These additional
hours are identified as Custom Primary Hours. |
| Service Level Objective |
A Service Level
Objective (SLO) is a measurable target (value) that describes the
performance that a DTS customer can expect to receive. For example, an
SLO for the availability of a service would be represented as a
percentage of the total possible time that the service could be
available in a particular reporting period. |
| Service Level Agreement |
The DTS Service Level Agreement (SLA)
is made up of 3 parts: an Introduction; a Service Overview, and one
Service Level Description
for each DTS service identified in the Agreement Summary section
of the corresponding Inter-Agency Agreement. Together, Inter-Agency Agreement
and the Service Level Agreement describe the complete agreement
established between the DTS and a customer. |

and an email client. |
